What is block printing?

Block printing is an age old technique developed by artisans in India to add flourish of colors, patterns and designs to rugs, table covers, napkins... range of home furnishings. 

 

The process starts with making of the blocks as per the design specified by our customers or developed with the creativity of the weavers. 

Block of mango or seesham wood is taken & polished with sandpaper. 

 

Next the artist painstakingly traces the design on wood using hardened steel chisels. 

Design is carved into the wood block over number of days with fine details and patterns. 

 

Once the design is carved in, it's finished for using in the block printing process.

Finished blocks are dipped in paint & pressed on cotton sheets/dhurries/napkins to create beautiful patterns.
