The Ornate story

Ornate is a small business working closely with on the ground artists and weavers in Rajasthan, UP, Haryana and other states in India to bring to the world handwoven dhurries, fabulous rugs, amazing handicrafts and much more. 

It all began on a road trip in Rajasthan (totally grand Forts & Palaces!) few years back. I was amazed by the creativity of the artists... they took an old door and converted it to a beautiful table, old patches of cloth stitched into a quilt or waste strands of denim into a rug. 

 

 

The work is done by men & women, in small collectives or in their own backyard. Senior members of the community train young artists in timeless techniques combined with modern tech. Oh yes, one weaver told me get me a CAD drawing and I will recreate it... CAD is computer aided design ! (;-)

 

I realized that every piece of handmade item purchased goes a long way in empowering the artists to earn stable and healthy income. The social impact of this was amazing. 

That's what Ornate is about... we want the world to buy these incredible creations of the artists, support sustainable living and preserve this art for the next generations.
